Being in the toy business could not be more rewarding or fun but one thing that is very serious is toy safety.
These are some of the steps that we take to make safety a top priority:
1. We look for toys that are of the highest quality and durable.
2. We buy from reputable companies that spend a lot of money on careful design, research and testing. Many whom have their own independent lab work done.
3. We specifically look for toys that are award winners tested by families.
4. We keep up to date on the latest research of possible hazards informing the public and basing our buying decisions on this.
5. We keep up to date on the most recent recalls. If a recall applied to a product we sold we would immediately inform our customers through signs in store and this site. Of course all merchandise would be removed from sale.
6. We have letters of commitment outlining the safety procedures that many of our suppliers take.
7. We look for variety in Country of Origin. Unlike the big box stores we have toys from all over the globe many from Europe and North America.
What you can do? Safety Tips:
1. Check here regularly for new tips and recall information. Or subscribe to our email list for updates.
2. There is no substitute for adult supervision. Statistics show that the most frequent causes of injuries occur as a result of tripping over or bumping into a toy and the swallowing of small toys or parts by age-inappropriate children. Easier said than done but keeping younger siblings away from the small toys is important though surely difficult. Even children that are over the age of 3 sometimes put things in their mouth. If your child is quite oral then toy choices are going to be limited to those rated for under 3.
3. With used toys or hand me downs make sure to look for wear and tear, broken bits, sharp edges, and check for recalls.
4. Broken Balloon pieces are an especially dangerous choking hazard. For under 3’s consider buying only Mylar Balloons. If you are taking balloons to the park the staff only want you to bring Mylar Balloons for the safety of the wildlife.
